Post-Operative Care & FAQ for Penile Implant Surgery
1. How should I care for my incision?
You will have an incision with stitches that dissolve on their own
You will go home with a temporary drain, a small tube that decreases swelling after surgery, for one to three days. We will teach you how to take care of this.
You can shower after your drain is removed with mild soap and water.
Pat the area dry gently; avoid rubbing.
No soaking in baths, hot tubs, or pools until your doctor clears you.
Wear supportive underwear or a scrotal supporter to reduce swelling.
Watch for redness, swelling, or discharge — report anything unusual.
2. What activities should I avoid?
Limit movement during the first 1–2 days; short walks are okay.
Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for 2 weeks. No sexual activity for 4–6 weeks, or until your doctor says it’s safe.
Avoid positions that put pressure on the implant site.
3. How do I manage pain and swelling?
Take pain medications as prescribed.
Apply an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to reduce swelling.
Rest and avoid standing for long periods.
Prevent constipation with plenty of fluids, fiber, or stool softeners if needed.
4. When can I use my implant?
Do not inflate or deflate until cleared by your doctor.
Most patients learn how to use the implant at a follow-up visit around 2 – 4 weeks post-op.
Follow instructions carefully to avoid complications.
5. When should I call my doctor?
Contact your surgeon immediately if you notice:
Fever or signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus)
Severe or worsening pain not controlled by medication
