Many things can affect your erections, including getting older, stress, and many medical problems, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, elevated blood sugars. Unfortunately, many medications can cause erectile dysfunction as a side effect as well. A good erection requires healthy blood vessels, and smoking, which damages your blood vessels, will worsen your erections. Treatments for some cancers, prostate cancer being the most common, also cause erectile dysfunction.

Lifestyle Changes

The first things you can do to improve your erections are diet, exercise, and quitting smoking. If you don’t see a doctor regularly, we recommend having your cholesterol, your blood sugar, and your blood pressure checked. We also recommend checking your testosterone level because low testosterone levels can contribute to poor erections.

Treatment Options

The first treatment option is to try medications, such as Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra, which can help improve blood flow into the penis and help maintain a stronger erection. If the pills aren’t giving you the results you want, then we talk about next steps. We start with an ultrasound of the penis, looking at the arteries in the penis, and the blood flow in and out of the penis. Depending on the results, we talk about different treatment options, like penile prostheses, or injection therapy.

Learn More about Coloplast

Regardless of which treatment option you end up picking, the goal is to get you the erections that you want and get your sex life back to where you want it to be.  Dr. Thirumavalavan will thoroughly discuss treatment options including Coloplast during this webinar.
